Mental Health Nursing
Mental Health Nursing includes Psychiatric nursing, is a specialized field of nursing practice that involves the care of individuals with a mental health disorder to help them recover and improve their quality of life. The students are posted for training in Parent Hospital- inpatient and outpatient areas of P.I.M.S such as Psychiatry ward OPD, Occupational therapy ECT Child guidance clinic and counseling. Students also visit other Hospitals to fulfill their learning needs.
Students also participate in the important health days like World Autism Day, World Mental health awareness day, Suicide Alzheimer's day and World Occupational day, by performing Role play, Rally, Poster presentation, Quiz Competition and mass health education, etc. to create awareness to the patients and public. Periodical Continuing Nursing Education Programmes are conducted relevant to Mental health Nursing.
VISION
This is to bring excellence in mental health nursing education, practice and research by equipping the nursing students with excellent knowledge and skills in providing evidence-based care in varied fields of practice including institutional and community settings.
MISSION
To provide an outstanding experience, excellence in mental health education and multidisciplinary training to the nursing students. We are also committed to conduct research that deepens the understanding of various mental health disorders, treatment and preventive aspects to deliver more effective evidence-based nursing care.
PHILOSOPHY
It is believed that the mental health nursing department would prepare to encourage the nursing students practice in therapeutic use of self understanding about the normal and abnormal conditions/disorders to gain knowledge about the mental illness to provide nursing care to the patients and families.
